Learning from one another
Women make a key contribution to congregational life in the EMS Fellowship by taking on many diaconal responsibilities and giving pastoral care. Nevertheless, very few of them have leadership positions in the church hierarchies. Although women frequently suffer from poverty and violence, they develop incredible strengths and abilities. Women from the South and the North need to meet so that they can learn from one another and exchange experiences with each other. The Women and Gender Desk thus encourages mutual visits and international networks among women from the churches and mission societies of the EMS in Africa, Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
The Women and Gender Desk cooperates closely with other organisations working for gender equity. For example, there are close relations with the Women in Mission commission of the Association of Churches and Missions in Germany (EMW) and the German World Day of Prayer Committee in Stein. In Stuttgart we cooperate with the Women’s Information Centre (FIZ) and the DWW (Diakonisches Werk Württemberg) department for refugee women.
