Kerstin Neumann takes over as Head of Mission and Partnership at the EMSFrom Madurai (India) to West Stuttgart
On 15 August, Dr. Kerstin Neumann took over as Head of the Mission and Partnership department at the EMS Secretariat in Stuttgart. The graduate Doctor of Theology succeeds Ulrike Schmidt-Hesse. Kerstin Neumann is an ordained pastor of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck (EKKW). She has spent the last 20 years in India. She is married to the current Principal of the Tamilnadu Theological Seminary (TTS) in Madurai, the Reverend Dr. J. David Rajendran. There, she also lectured in religious sciences and philosophy. From Madurai she has long given her support to EMS projects.
It was a formative period for Kerstin Neumann: "The years guided me through a process which taught me profoundly that faith and spirituality are not a purely personal matter but are a decisive part of our presence in a community." One of the challenges facing the incumbent head of department will be the preservation of God's creation. One of her main concerns is service to people who do not even have enough to still their most basic needs - a situation caused by neo-liberal economic interests.
"In Ms Neumann we have gained a theologian with international experience," said Marianne Wagner, Chair of the EMS Mission Council which elected Kerstin Neumann at its meeting in Beuggen on 11 June 2015. "As an international fellowship the EMS also needs people in its management who are familiar with faith and life in all its different facets. Dr. Neumann brings with her a wealth of theological, cultural and spiritual experience which will enrich our projects. We are looking forward very much to working with her."
Kerstin Neumann is also delighted with her new post: "Service to people who have been pushed to the fringes of our society for economic, political or religious reasons can be implemented in constructive and creative ways, especially within an international context such as the EMS Fellowship."
The international EMS Mission Council will officially inaugurate Ms Neumann during a worship service in Herrenberg on 6 November 2015.
