Prof. Nozomu Hiroishi, Professor of Theology at Sophia University, Japan

We warmly invite you to the next EMS Sharing of Life Concerns on Monday, June 2, 2025, 1 p.m. (CEST).

In this session we welcome Prof. Nozomu Hiroishi, Professor of Theology at Sophia University, Japan and Chairman of the Commission for Ecumenical Ministries in the United Church of Christ in Japan (KYODAN).

In his lecture, Prof. Hiroishi will give us a brief overview of the history of Christianity in Japan and talk about some of the tasks, opportunities and challenges of KYODAN today.

In Japan, only around one percent of the population belongs to a Christian church. There are only around 650,000 Protestants in total. 200,000 of them belong to the United Church of Christ in Japan (KYODAN). With around 1,700 congregations and around 2,200 pastors, it is the largest Protestant church in the country.

We look forward to your participation in the Zoom conference.
