Building bridges across cultures

Church partnerships are at the heart of the worldwide ecumenical movement. They show how Christians can work together as brothers and sisters across cultural, geographical, and denominational boundaries. In this issue, we share encounters that broaden horizons and transform perspectives.

Ghana meets Germany

In September 2024, ten Presbyterian Christians from Ghana visited their partner congregations in Germany’s Palatinate region. For everyone involved, learning from one another was a key motivation for the partnership. Rev. Theresa Gilcher accompanied the German-Ghanaian group on an excursion through the beautiful late-summer Palatinate Forest – a vivid example of faith in action.

Faith and migration in Stuttgart

Stuttgart has become home to a growing number of mother-tongue congregations from around the world. “Migration and faith are not side issues – they are a source of strength for living together,” says Pastor Alfred Moto-poh. As a representative of the Basel Mission – German Branch, the Cameroonian pastor works to connect migrant congregations across the Stuttgart region.

Voices from Indonesia

With more than 280 million inhabitants, Indonesia is one of the world’s most populous nations – predominantly Muslim, yet rich in diversity. EMS churches there do not see themselves as a minority, but as a vital force for the common good. Find out how you can support their mission in the latest EMS Insights.
