YOU + ME: FRIENDS AROUND THE WORLD
YOU + ME: FRIENDS AROUND THE WORLD is an education programme for children at Sunday school and primary school. Children meet other children around the world: on equal footing, ecumenically, and open to similarities and differences. In order to strengthen international relationships, the programme offers activities and materials in different languages.
The friends: Emso the Elephant and Pipit the Bird
Cartoon characters Emso the Elephant and Pipit the Bird accompany children all over the world on their learning journey. Together with the children, they discover different countries, cultures and religions. They guide the children through the workbooks, making it easier for them to understand and making learning fun.
From Around the World
Focus on internationalisation
With YOU + ME, the EMS Fellowship gains experience of how diverse internationalisation can be. This happens on several levels. On the one hand, through the content of the educational material, which allows the children to familiarise themselves with different cultures. Key here is the book “Diversity”, which is printed in various member churches around the world and is available in German, English, Korean and Indonesian. On the other hand, it is reflected in the structures. Programme multipliers in the member churches are in communication with the staff at the secretariat in Stuttgart. An international advisory board supports the work. Communication takes place via social media.

Dado (10), his family and his buffalo live on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. Dado loves nature and his beautiful village with its traditional houses, bamboo trees and storage barns for rice. He would like to show you his world:

Ashleigh (11) lives in a country at the southern tip of the African continent: South Africa. Ashleigh is amazed by the beauty of God’s creation. Find out here what she wants to tell the children of this earth:

Woo Hyeong is nine years old and lives in the city of Goyang in South Korea. The topic of peace is something very close to his heart. Here, Woo Hyeong explains how South Koreans greet each other, and what this greeting has to do with peace:
Frieda (6) takes us into her world in Germany
Frieda (6) lives with her sister and parents in Rockenhausen in the west of Germany. Frieda enjoys singing and, more than anything, loves playing in the countryside. Find out more about her life and dreams in this story:
Workbooks
Take your Sunday school on a journey into the worlds of children from Indonesia, India, Germany, South Korea, Ghana and South Africa. Appealing methods and plenty of photos and ideas make the workbooks "Diversity" and "Peace" a real treasure for Sunday schools all over the world. In unserem Heft kommen die Kinder authentisch mit ihren Anliegen, Freuden und Sorgen zu Wort. Sie lassen uns an ihrem Kinderalltagteilhaben und stehen dabei ganz im Mittelpunkt. Stereotypen bleiben außen vor. Wichtig ist die Vielfalt von Gottes Kindern. Das macht das Heft so besonders und fördert die Toleranz.

Workbook Diversity
The booklet you are holding in your hands will take you and your group of children on a world trip. Children from our Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS) introduce themselves in these beautifully designed pages. All over the world, a lot of research is currently going on about children and being published in studies. In our booklet we have let the children speak up themselves in authentic depictions of their concerns, joys and sorrows. They allow us to share their everyday lives and are in the centre of attention themselves. Stereotypes don’t stand a chance. What is important is the diversity of God’s children. This makes the booklet so special and promotes tolerance.
