A New Reality After 7 October
The impact of the Israel-Hamas war on travel and encounters in the Middle East
What is the impact of the war between Israel and Hamas on meetings and travelling in the Middle East? Schneller Magazine asks this question in its current issue and has interviewed experienced organisers of encounter trips such as Georg Rössler (Jerusalem) and Christoph Dinkelaker (Berlin). Renate Ellmenreich reports on Lebanon and how the Lebanese people deals with the absence of tourists. The EMS study programme SiMO also had to be relocated from Beirut to Romania due to the crisis, as Jan Jakob Bergmann reports.
It is clear from all the contributions: Travelling to Israel, Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon will probably not be the same again in the long term. Nevertheless, encounters are still possible in different ways. They require more creativity, frustration tolerance and even more intensive listening to one another than before. But perhaps this is precisely what makes them more intense.
A good example for this is the EVS travel that was organized on the organ inauguration in Amman on 21 April. 20 men and women from Germany travelled to Jordan and the Theodor Schneller School. The current Schneller Magazine reports on their impressions and on new developments at the Johann Ludwig Schneller School.
