Flood disaster in Rhineland-Palatinate and NRW
Church President Wüst calls for prayer

In the Protestant Church of the Palatinate and in neighbouring churches, more than 100 people have lost their lives due to severe storms within the last few days. Many more people are still missing. Dorothee Wüst, Church President of the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate writes: : "The events and images shake our hearts." The Protestant Church in the Palatinate, an EMS member, calls for prayers for the victims of the disaster as well as their relatives and the emergency and rescue forces on the ground.
Prayer
Water is life.
But water can also destroy life.
Distressing images are currently bearing witness to this.
People are losing their homes.
People lose the ground under their feet.
People are losing their lives.
We feel for the people in the flooded areas.
We pray for all those who are afraid and do not know what will happen next.
We grieve with all those who have lost someone they love.
May God be with those who are up to their necks in water.
May his strength be with those who save and help and accompany.
May his Spirit create a community that supports and holds where everything is collapsing.
The need is great.
Let us stand together and be there for each other.
As best we can.
Amen.
