Middle East: Emergency Aid for 100 Displaced Families
EMS Member Church Strengthens Community Support
Since the war in the Middle East escalated on 28 February, member churches of the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS) and their partner institutions in Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and Israel have been severely affected.
In Lebanon especially, congregations and social institutions face the consequences of the conflict every day – and are responding with practical solidarity.
Fast help for families who fled the South
The National Evangelical Church in Beirut (NECB), together with the Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS), has launched an emergency project to support families who were forced to flee the south of Lebanon. Through its congregational work, educational programs, and extensive community networks, the church is closely connected to many of those affected.
At the same time, the NECB is providing safe accommodation for another 300 displaced people.
Aid does not reach everyone
Many NGOs support people living in official shelters. But families staying with relatives or in informal housing often receive no help at all.
This is where the NECB project steps in: targeting vulnerable families who have no access to governmental or international assistance.
100×100: Rapid, Effective Emergency Relief
Many families left their homes with almost nothing. At the same time, the economic situation is worsening, leaving many households without any income.
Thanks to its deep community ties, the NECB has identified 100 families who are especially affected and have not received help from any other organization.
To meet urgent needs quickly, the church distributes shopping vouchers worth 100 USD each – a fast, effective, and dignified form of support.
Why shopping vouchers?
This approach:
- shows solidarity from the church community
- respects dignity and choice, allowing families to decide what they need most
- supports local businesses, helping stabilize the local economy
The result: immediate, flexible, and targeted assistance where other support structures do not reach.
Ongoing support and close contact
Throughout the duration of the project, the NECB team stays in direct contact with the families to ensure that:
- vouchers can be redeemed without difficulties
- assistance matches real and changing needs
This simple yet powerful approach delivers help exactly when families need it most.
Our appeal
Pray with us
- for peace and an immediate end to the war
- for protection and strength for our member churches, their congregations, and volunteers
- for the many people forced to flee or who have lost loved ones
- for political leaders making decisions of great consequence
Support with your donation
Your assistance is urgently needed so that we can:
- provide safe accommodation for refugees
- supply food, water, and essential relief items
- continue to support, protect, and accompany children and young people
Every contribution to the EMS Emergency Relief Fund – large or small – benefits people in crisis regions and emergency situations, as is currently the case in the Middle East.
“Pray for us.”
These are the words with which our brothers and sisters in the Middle East conclude their reports. Let us answer this call – with our prayers, our solidarity, and by sharing what we can give.
