“Together We Are Free”

EMS jubilee song goes on musical world tour

info_outline

What happens when you send a song around the world and invite 25 million people to make something of their own out of it? The Evangelical Mission in Solidarity (EMS) is holding a church service on 16 January 2022 together with the Protestant Church of the Palatinate to mark the 50th anniversary of the EMS. During this service, a song will be broadcast from Landau to the worldwide EMS Fellowship. All congregations, choirs, groups and circles of the 30 member churches and mission associations in the EMS are invited to send back their very own version of this song by Easter. The church service will be streamed over the EMS website starting at 9.00 am on 16 January 2022.

EMS Church Service from Landau - Celebrate Online!

The EMS will celebrate a 50th anniversary service in Landau, Germany on January 16, 2022, at 9 AM. During the service, a song will be sent to the worldwide EMS community.

The musician and pastor Fabian Vogt composed the song "Together we are free" for the 50th anniversary of the EMS. With it he echoes the motto of the EMS jubilee: “Free for the future”.

"In January 1972, it was decided in Landau to found the EMS," explains the General Secretary of the EMS, Rev. Dr Dieter Heidtmann. "In the meantime, an international church fellowship has grown in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Europe from these modest beginnings. We are now transposing this history into the world of music. From the Palatinate we are sending an idea into the world and we are incredibly excited to see what comes back from the member churches of the EMS by Easter." With the feedback from all over the world, a jubilee service will be planned in all congregations of the EMS member churches on 18 September 2022.

"The EMS is like a big family because we are sisters and brothers with Jesus Christ in our midst," explains Marianne Wagner, member of the Consistory of the Protestant Church of the Palatinate and former EMS Chairperson. "I am very excited to see how our diversity will be expressed musically and it hopefully bring us all movement." The composer of the song, Fabian Vogt, promises: "We will rock ecumenism!" However, he does not want to reveal more about his EMS song before 16 January 2022.

The church service launching the musical world tour can be viewed on 16 January 2022 as from 9.00 am at the following link: ems-online.org/servicelandau.

The EMS will provide sheet music, choral settings and various playback versions of the jubilee song as free downloads on its website.
